Saltburn-By-The-Sea is a seaside resort in the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, England. The town is situated around 12 miles west of Middlesbrough and had a population of 5,912 at the 2001 Census.
Its attractions include a recently renovated pier, plenty of Victorian buildings, a valley garden, a smugglers museum. and the world's oldest water powered cliff lift .
The town is on the Cleveland Way and just south of the town is the large Hunt Cliff. The coastline is popular with surfers.
It also has a railway station which is at the end of the branch line from Middlesbrough and Darlington. A freight line continues to the potash mine at nearby Boulby , although this line used to continue to Whitby.
