The Lady Helen Taylor was born 28 April 1964 at Coppins, Iver, Buckinghamshire, to HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and his wife, the former Katharine Wolsey (now known as Katharine Kent).
She was styled Lady Helen Windsor until marriage. On 18 July 1992, she married Timothy Taylor, an art dealer and the eldest son of Commander Michael Taylor, RN, at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. They have have four children:

- Cassius Edward Taylor, born 26 December 1996
- Eloise Taylor, born 2 March 2003
- Estella Taylor, born 21 December 2004
