Lachine

Lachine is a specific referring to a number of places in the Montreal area:

• Lachine, Quebec, now a borough of Montreal;
• the Lachine Rapids;
• the Lachine Canal;
• the Lachine Canal National Historic Site ;
• The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site .

The name comes from the French la Chine, "China," a derisive reference to Robert Cavelier de La Salle's belief that beyond the Lachine Rapids was a sea route to the Orient.
