L'Osservatore Romano

L'Osservatore Romano is the Vatican's newspaper. It coverages all public activities of the Pope's life, publishes editorials by important churchmen, and prints official documents after being released. Its motto is "unicuique suum" - "to each his own" and "non praevalebunt" - (the enemies of God, of the Church shall) "not prevail" and is printed under the masthead.

The first issue of L'Osservatore Romano was published in Rome on 1 July 1861, a few months after the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed on (17 March 1861). The wording daily newspaper was added on 31 March 1862. It is published in different languages (sorted by year of the first issue in particular language):

The daily Italian edition of L'Osservatore Romano is published in the afternoon, with a cover date of the following day. This often causes misunderstandings.

The weekly English edition came out on 4 April 1968. Currently it is distributed in more than 129 countries.
