Jhabua

Jhabua is a town in western Madhya Pradesh state of central India.

Jhabua was the capital of a princely state of the British Raj's Central India, in the Bhopawar agency. Its area, with the dependency of Rutanmal, was 1336 square miles. After India's independence in 1947, its rulers acceded to India, and Jhabua became part of the newly created Madhya Bharat state, which in 1956 was merged into Madhya Pradesh.

Jhabua District

Area 6,782 sq km, population 1,396,677 (2001 census), a 24% increase from its 1991 population of 1,129,356. Jhabua is the westernmost district in Madhya Pradesh. It is bounded by Ratlam district to the north, Dhar district to the east, and the state of Gujarat to the south and west. Jhabua is famous for its Bhil( an Adivasi meaning ancient dwellers) tribe. They have distinct traditions and culture from other adivasis. present state of the place is very grim as it suffers a lot of illiteracy and poverty specially due to the lack of good governance.
